February, 1998: Why Bother to Be Good?

As a participant in the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1993, and especially as an organizer of the presence of humanist organizations in that event, I often found myself being asked the question: as a humanist, why bother to be good?  This is my answer to that question, one which is central to the ethical humanist religious life.
